Oxford University Press Manuscript Editing Services
Oxford University Press is the world’s largest university press and one of the most selective. Its acquisitions editors read proposals against a rigorous standard — clear argument, original contribution, appropriate audience, and clean prose that demonstrates scholarly command without opacity. A manuscript submitted to OUP without professional editorial preparation announces itself before the reviewer has read a line.
Since 2002, Off the Grid Editing has prepared academic manuscripts for submission to university presses. For Oxford submissions, our editors work in Chicago style and OUP’s house conventions, attending to the specific markers of scholarly register that acquisitions editors at a press of this standing expect. We edit for argument clarity, citation consistency, and the prose precision that distinguishes a manuscript ready for peer review from one that is not.
Our Promise
We will ensure that the final draft you receive is completely ready to submit to Oxford University Press. We work with you until it is ready or refund your payment in full. That commitment has held since 2002.
Our editors do not have access to your manuscript until an order is placed. Your draft is secure until you decide to proceed.
Manuscript Editing Services for Oxford University Press
We offer three levels of manuscript editing depending on what your manuscript needs. Each is described below so you can choose the service that fits where your draft is right now.
Our copy editing service corrects grammar, punctuation, spelling, citation formatting, and usage throughout your manuscript. Includes a final proofreading pass. Recommended for authors whose argument and structure are solid and who need a meticulous surface review before submitting to Oxford University Press. We apply Chicago and Oxford house style throughout.
Our line editing service addresses grammar, syntax, structural coherence, style, and voice — and includes a full copy editing and proofreading pass. Recommended for authors who want sentence-level revision, passive voice reduction, or substantive EFL/ESL correction for a manuscript targeting Oxford University Press. The manuscript you receive is complete at every level.
Our proofreading service provides a final review for spelling, punctuation, and typographic errors — for manuscripts that have already been edited and need only a last human pass before submission to Oxford University Press. When the writing is done and the deadline is close, this is the right service.
Oxford University Press uses Chicago style as its baseline with house modifications specific to each series and imprint. If you have received author guidelines from your acquisitions editor, send them with your manuscript and we will apply them precisely. If you are submitting a proposal before contract, we prepare your sample chapters and proposal document to OUP’s general submission standards. If you have questions about which service is right for your manuscript, contact us directly. We respond to every inquiry the same day during business hours.
